Actor Sidney Poitier receives an Honorary Oscar for Career Achievement at the Academy Awards. In 1963 Poitier won an Oscar for Best Actor in “Lilies of the Field.”

Actor Denzel Washington wins the Oscar for Best Actor in the film “Training Day” at the Academy Awards. He becomes the second Black male actor to win best actor.

Actress Halle Berry wins the Oscar for Best Actress in the film “Monster’s Ball” at the Academy Awards. She becomes the first Black actress to win for best actress.
