I marked my calendar when I heard about the collaboration between Diane von Furstenburg and GapKids a few months ago. I bought my first DVF wrap dress after having my son, when I wasn’t feeling so cute. The wrap style was very flattering on my post-pregnant self, so I have held DVF in high regard since that first splurge.
My three-year old daughter and I lounged in the sitting area of the mall near the GapKids store for about 30 minutes before it opened on March 15th. I could see through the windows some of the pieces and I tried to rally my daughter for the occasion. “Look at all the orange, green, yellow and pink! Which colors do you like?” I tried to appeal to her love of crayons and coloring. “Can I play Ninja Fishing on your phone?” was her response as she peeked out of her stroller.
Luckily, another mom soon came to wait for the store to open. Her daughter was school-aged so she was alone, but we chatted happily about our love of DVF. As the doors opened, a few more moms arrived but it was no frenzy (which I was happy about, I like to shop in peace!) Then we realized why no frenzy- all the die-hards had shopped last night! Apparently if you were linked to GapKids on Facebook, you got an invitation to preview the collection the night before the launch. Lesson learned- next capsule collection that is announced, find it on FB before it comes out to take advantage of any special offers!
The pickings were still aplenty, so I got busy shopping for my mini-fashionista. She happily colored little paper dolls that were set out on tables with little DVF paper outfits. There was a cute shirt dress that would be great on an older child, and on-trend colors like black/white/yellow print. We brought a few dresses, rompers, and printed shorts into the dressing room and got busy with the fashion show. It was all so cute! But rather than drain my checking account, we settled on the green t-shirt dress, a wrap romper and the printed shorts and headed to the cash wrap. The sales associate was just opening a box of toddler DVF for GapKids sunglasses as I approached her to pay. They were so stylish and sassy, I put back the shorts and grabbed a pair of little white sunglasses.
I have to admit, I still prefer shopping for myself over others, but designer duds for my little one is the next best thing!
