Your long awaited wedding day: not only is it one of the most important days of your life, but whether it is big or small, black tie or casual, it can be a pretty hectic day!
You want to feel beautiful on your wedding day. Chances are, you'll be spending the day with friends and family, and the subject of hundreds of photos!
If you happen to have a knack for hair or makeup, and are good with time management, by all means, save some money and do the job yourself.
If you would rather be pampered or simply have one less thing to worry about on your big day, hire a professional.
Here are some reasons why:

1) You can't trust the weather: We all hope for the perfect temperature on our special day, but things happen. Hiring a professional makeup/hair artist gives you the advantage of having a sweat/rain/humidity proof look. Many brides are now hiring the beauty professionals to stay on through the evening for photo and general touch ups. Talk about peace of mind!
2) A friend/family member who is good at makeup may not necessarily know which details to focus on: there's a difference between every day makeup and makeup that is both event and camera ready. It comes down to technique, detail, and types of products used. So even though your BFF always shows up with flawless makeup, she might not have the training required to know how to make you wedding day ready.

3) Hiring a pro can be cost effective: many artists offer discounts when you book them for your wedding, engagement photos and your bridal party. Additionally, you can have a pre-wedding consult, in order to see exactly how your makeup/hair will look on the big day.

There are some things to consider when looking for the right artist(s) for your day:
1) Who recommended them? Is it a trusted source?
2) Does the "pro" have a website? A presence on social media? How do they display their work?
3) Does the pro have multiple references you can call?
4) Did the pro show up on time for your consult? (If not, this is a huge red flag! You wouldn't want this to happen on your actual wedding day!!!)
5) Is the pro easy to contact? Does she/he return your calls/texts/emails in a timely manner?

The most important thing about your wedding day is to enjoy the moment! It's a once in a lifetime event, and the less you have to worry about, the better. Putting as many details as possible into the hands of professionals leaves you time for what's really important - spending the day with the man of your dreams.
