and all of us know someone affected by breast cancer - someone we know who has had it and survived or who has died because of it.
It's such a frustrating disease because it takes something mostly identifies us as women and suddenly makes it it our enemy - our breasts.
In 2011 the doctor discovered a lump in my right breast and almost immediately declared it benign. But for the next two years I had to get mammograms every six months, to make sure his diagnosis was correct. That lump is still there, and I just check on it every month or so.
That's a brief summary of my experience - which admittedly, is a very blessed one. However, one of my best friend's lost her mother to breast cancer in 2006. In 2003, I knew a 28 year-old woman who had discovered and survived the disease. She is now 43, and has survived it a total of three times!
